Photo Critiques



This is an example of a good photo because Lance Armstrong is the central focus point.It also shows him in action, doing what he is most well known for. This photo appeared in the Wall Street Journal.


This is another example of a good photo because it shows action. Also, it is a photo of an animal, and next to children and the elderly, animals are the most popular/well-received photo subject. This photo appeared in the LA Times.


This is an example of a bad photo because there isn't really a main focus. I could not tell what the story was about if all I saw was this photo. This photo appeared in the New York Times.

This is another example of a bad photo because it is just a picture of a building, basically. Although the shrimp statue does add a little bit of an interesting aspect, it trivializes the subject matter of the actual story. This photo appeared in the OC Register.

  2. Your examples are good, and you make some accurate observations. But the critique does not touch on any of the elements of composition, lighting, depth, angle, cropping, etc. that we discussed in class. Additionally, you were meant to explain how you would improve the bad photos.
